Halito, (a Choctaw greeting)
My name is Joel Carpenter. I am a native Oklahoman and a registered Native American artist with the Choctaw tribe. I began my writing career at the age of 5 creating illustrated stories and comic books for my friends. My development has included my parents love of poetry, literature, plays and music and the sermons written by the amazing preachers/storytellers in my life. I have always loved being a storyteller. From the oldest methods of visual art and the oral tradition, to music, books and the visual media of film, the role of the storyteller as caretaker and teacher of a cultures traditions, history and beliefs has been indispensable. I like to see myself in that role, and as such, hope that my writing is vivid, compelling and full of belief and emotion. One good story told to the right person can change the course of the world and a thousand meaningful words that no one ever listens to have no life. I may not change the world, or even change your mind. But, I hope I can tell a good story.
- I hope you enjoy the stories.
